Walking for the Planet

Veteran walker Dewan Shuaib Afzal will try to draw attention to climate change issues especially as it affects Bangladesh & other developing countries, island countries like the Maldives, Solomon Islands, and Tuvalu.

Dewan Shuaib Afzal, a Canadian of Bangladeshi origin will walk on December 6th at Copenhagen, starting at noon from the Airport to the Bella Centre, the venue of the UN climate Conference. He will be joined by a team of young people coming from Bangladesh, called Design Bangladesh and many activists from the Copenhagen area. Dewan is a resident of Toronto and the walk is endorsed by Toronto Climate Campaign, a coalition of climate campaigners & climate justice activists. Greenpeace Copenhagen is lending support to him for his walk in this city.

Dewan is a veteran walk-activist taking to the road on several occasions to draw attention to various causes. He walked from Toronto to Ottawa last fall along with fellow environmental activists Adriana Mugnatto-Hamu, Rita Bijons, and others to deliver a message to Canadian PM Stephen Harper on global warming in general and how it affects his native country Bangladesh in particular. Called the Sunshine Walk, it drew international media attention. The walk in Copenhagen is an extension of the Sunshine Walk.
